Chairman Masayoshi Matsumoto of Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. met with Humza Yousaf, First Minister of Scotland, and Neil Gray, Cabinet Secretary for Wellbeing Economy, Fair Work and Energy in Scotland on August 7th, 2023.
Sumitomo Electric announced a plan to establish a power cable factory in the Scottish Highlands on April 27th, 2023, with the aim of expanding its power cable business in the European region. In line with this, Sumitomo Electric’s Chairman Masayoshi Matsumoto visited Scotland and met with First Minister Yousaf and Cabinet Secretary Gray of the Scottish Government.
At the meeting, both parties agreed that Sumitomo Electric’s new factory will play an important role in Scotland’s energy transition and the creation of a net-zero society, and the Scottish Government will continue to provide support for this project. Both also reaffirmed that this project will contribute to the establishment of an offshore wind power supply chain and technology development in Scotland, leading to the effective use of renewable energy and the development of a green society.
Sumitomo Electric will contribute to the development of a green society by leveraging its advanced technologies in the construction of future international interconnection lines and the realization of offshore wind power generation projects.
